Steps A Steps B
Early Stage Images
Explanation of the early stage images 1. For this image, I did the rough sketch straight in photoshop, and I separated each characters and BG into different layers. That way, it would be easier to adjust the compositition. 2.The next step was lying down the color base and deciding the light source. To create a sense of space, I would do a full value contrast on the girl, but more subtle in value for the rest of the characters and background.
Working on the Girl's face Images
Explanation on the Girl's face Images 3.When I colored my work, I used the basic ink brush, but under the option Brushes> Other Dynamics> Opacity Jitter> I switched the Control from off to Pen Pressure. And the brush always had 100% opacity level. 4. When I worked on the face, I always flipped the image horizontally so I could spot any unbalance feature of the face. On coloring the lips, I would make the outer edge of the lips soft, and soft dot for the highlight.
Hair highlight and using the air bursh images
Explanation of highlights and air brush 5. The light source was coming for the right side of her face, so the highlight on the hair would also be on the right. Always keep it consistent and limited at the same time. 6.At parts where I felt messy, I would use an airbrush (pen pressure on Opacity jitter) to blend the color better, but remember to make both the edges of the highlight and cast shadow to remain crisp!
Working on the Laces Images
Explanation of the Laces steps 7. Making the lace, it would be easier to put it on a separate layer. I made the basic shape and fill it with the base color. 8. Then I would add the shadow underneath and start making the holes on each laces.
Making Tattoo Images
Explanation making the tatto 9. On making the tattoo, I created a new layer. And I painted the tattoo shapes a solid black. 10. The next simple step that does the trick was switching the Normal layer mode into Soft Light on the Layers Window. Done~
Working on the boy's face Images
Explanation of the boy's face 11. When I started coloring this guy, I realized that his nose, mouth and chin were not lined up properly. 12. So I fixed the lips' center point to align with the nose, and also added some chin. Hmmm... he looks more sexay now. (lol)
Working on the boy's hair Images
Explanation of the boy's hair 13. I didn't add any more highlight on his face since I don't want him to compete too much with the girl on the foreground. But his hair could have a bit more highlight. 14. I also added a rim light on his right side to distance him from the background and the rabbit character.
It's a very useful and effective technique.
Working on the rabbit's face Images
Explanation of the rabbit's face 15. Working on the furry animals, I would keep the fur in various directions instead going on one. By doing so it would helped to create the three dimensional shape of the animals. 16. After making the individual furs, I would lay some shade using an airbrush to blend them better. I added a bit of highlight on the rabbit's chin, nose and eyes.
Working on the background Images
Explanation of the background 17. I was constantly zooming out (Ctrl + -) on my work a lot, because it's like viewing your image from a distance, and it would be much easier to spot errors on perspective and the image flow in general. 18. When I finished working on my Background, I would add some texture. The way I made mine was by making a new layer and fill it in with dark gray.
Making the BG texture Images
Explanation of making the BG texture 19. Then I would double click on the gray layer, and an effect window would emerge then I selected Bevel and Emboss> Texture and adjust the scale = 750% with depth = +46% and press OK. 20. Then I made that layer mode into Soft light, with 71% Opacity. Then I added the flower petal. For the final touch, I would make a new layer on the top of all layers, and put some gradation.
Making Gradation Images
Explanation of making gradation 21.
I.I selected the gradation tool
II.then I clicked on the gradation box on the top left, and a new window came out where I picked the color.
III.I select the gradation path into Radial.
22. This was the result. The yellow area would indicate the lighter area.
The Final Touch Images
Explanation of the final stage 23. And finally I switch that Gradation Layer mode from Normal into Soft light. Done yay.
